Zack Wester, an up-and-coming artist from Montreal, channels the spirit of innovation through his distinctive work, employing truck hoods from the 1930s to the 1990s as a compelling and unconventional medium. Over the past four years, Wester has crafted the "Mindblown" series, delving into the confluence of car culture, decorative art, and gender norms. Through his art, he explores the dichotomies ingrained in his upbringing – a unique blend of feminist studies shared with his sister and a deep immersion in motor culture due to his father's background as a former race car driver and his time spent helping his grandfather repair machinery on the family farm.
His art weaves historical car culture traditions into a contemporary narrative, sparking conversations about gender within a sphere where such discussions are often overlooked.
In Zack Wester's works, truck hoods become more than metal canvases, they serve as portals into a world where art, motor culture, and discussions about mental health and gender converge, creating a nuanced dialogue that challenges societal norms and fosters inclusivity.
